1910s - Maremmas in wartime - 4 -- Carting during WWI in the Italian Alps

Patti in Australia shares these photos of Maremmas working as war dogs in World War I in Italy.

Rocco of the Mastino Abruzzese Club in Italy writes, "Yes, were used to tow sleds or carts for the transport of medicines and supplies on the front of the mountain of Adamello Retiche in the Alps, where there is also the namesake step."
