This is a stock photo of the Italian Alps in winter. It was these mountains that the soldiers and Maremmas climbed during World War I. The TV show, in the link below, shows video footage of soldiers climbing the mountains carrying military equipment on their backs to set up sites for fighting. No Maremmas are in the video, but it shows the difficult environment in which they worked. The other photos in this blog show that Maremmas were active in Italian warfare.
